The very title "Kung Fu Panda" says almost everything. Just like the irresistible sight of inching penguins in "Happy Feet" was its very obvious selling point, as is the idea of a chubby panda who experimenting with various techniques carat almost reason enough in itself to see the movie. You can not blame the folks at DreamWorks in believing that they have found a winner in this concept, and the film then follows also expected through.
In the film we meet Po, a slightly flabby panda who dreams of becoming a great kung fu warrior, but barely motor to get down the stairs without stretch and anything. Between daydreaming, he works in his father's nudelbiks where the father sees his son's future very clearly. There would his fate as doubtless have ended, if not a day, a message that the great master Oogway will designate the next dragon warrior. Po sent over to sell noodle soup, but instead ended up - after much piece of nonsense - to be the one that Oogway points.
Master Shifu, whose job it is to train kung fu warriors, however, is shocked that Oogway chose a so flommet and uncoordinated dragons warrior and not one of his faithful students. He therefore decides by all means to intimidate the babble happy bear away, but discovers to his horror that the eternally optimistic Po is not so easy to get rid of. If there's one thing, "Kung Fu Panda" can be commended on more than anything else, it's the economy in the story. The story is a rather banal and violent predictable affair ed edd n eddy games without too much fuss, but it manages to keep things moving, and with its modest 92 minutes of play it is not a good hand. It is essentially a loving retelling of the classic kung fu movies that some of us have been wasted many lazy Sundays on. Here the difference is simply that it is animated animals in the lead role. The film's very beautiful animation has the advantage that it makes it possible to create the wildest stunts and highly entertaining Hong Kong-inspired fight sequences quickly becomes one of the film's best draws. Not least the evil Tai Lung's escape from custody can fully go the distance compared to regular action movie.
Like "Iron Man" recently was tailored to Robert Downey Jr., so it seems the role of the overweight panda to be perfect for Jack Black. The good-natured bear is as much the epitome of Black that are sometimes almost forgot that one sees an animation version of the same actor. It is also a difficult task for Rune Klan to give voice to the Danish version, but he escapes remarkably well from the challenge, and he provides the flommede bear with plenty of optimism and youthful phrases.
If "Kung Fu Panda" is an entertaining game of trouble, ed edd n eddy games then there is in turn no great magic in the story itself or the depth of the characters, and jokes about Pos size are becoming a little tiring. There are still a far cry up to movies like Pixar's "Ratatouille", but as a film of pure fun and games, so is the undeniably pretty entertaining.
